The orange stuff is most likely the high temp gasket maker which will last 10x longer and work better than a regular gasket IMO. If it's not leaking, why remove it.
To answer your question, yes i believe the exhaust has to come off to get the pan out...... _________________ www.rc4x4.org

yeah but now Felpro sells the sweeeeet silicone (or whatever it is) one piece gaskets. I just put one on my 2.5L when I did all the other seals. No RTV no mess. Just lay it down and tighten the bolts. _________________ 89 YJ truggy, propane 4.0L, Ax-15/np231/dana 300, triple sticks, full widths, dual triangulated 4 link with hydrolic ram airshocks, full hydro, 36" TSL's on GLO beadlocks |

I would get the RTV out of there it's not good if it peels off on the inside it will jam up oil passages , I used a 1pcs. gasket on my 93 YJ 2.5 and I did not have to remove the exhaust but I would replace the bolts I whent to retourk my bolts to the rite # and 2 broke _________________ NOT A NEWBIE BUT THATS OK

I cannot read that well but the exhaust has to come off as was stated. _________________ 01 XJ- 60th, black and built, lost to my wife as her DD

I pulled my oil pan off my 2.5 tj years ago. I just had to unbolt the head pipe from the manifold, and I believe that was enough room to get the pan off.
